Gautam Gambhir Comes Out In Support Of R Ashwin In The “Spirit Of Cricket” Discussion

“Spirit of Cricket” has become a hot topic of discussion in recent days. This was triggered after the heated exchange between R Ashwin and Eoin Morgan in the recent IPL game between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Gautam Gambhir comes out in support of R Ashwin in the ongoing discussion about Spirit of Cricket after the game between KKR and DC.

“Spirit of Cricket” has become a hot discussion

In the batting innings of DC, a ball thrown by the KKR outfielder hit a DC batsman and went for an overthrow. R Ashwin called for the run, and along with Rishabh Pant, the duo completed it. However, KKR skipper Eoin Morgan was unhappy with the move.

A few moments later, after R Ashwin got out, both Eoin Morgan and Tim Southee had a few heated exchanges of words with the DC player. Dinesh Karthik was the peacemaker at that moment. Later, Ashwin picked up Morgan’s wicket and celebrated wildly, which further added to the narrative.

Ever since the incident, cricketers have started taking sides to the issue. While a little felt that Ashwin was against the spirit of the game, some of them opined that the Tamil Nadu spinners’ actions were well within the rules. Gautam Gambhir chose the latter side and explained it in one of his interviews.

Speaking on Star Sports, the former Delhi Capitals and KKR player said, “I back Ravichandran Ashwin 100 per cent, What he did was well within the rules. He has done nothing wrong. And there are so many people who are jumping into it, they have got nothing to do with it. Probably to increase some social media followers or to have some presence somewhere so that people can talk about it. It makes no sense. R Ashwin is absolutely correct.”

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are inching towards confirmation of a playoff spot, while KKR must fight hard to make it to the playoffs this season.
