“Gambhir At Chinnaswamy 302 runs 30 Avg & 126 S/R” – Twitter reacts as Gautam Gambhir said that AB de Villiers has only personal records in the IPL as anybody can score runs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium

Several former cricketers have been selecting the finest players and moments from the competition in anticipation of the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which would be a milestone edition as the league will complete 15 years of its existence. Since 2008, cricket fans have had the opportunity to debate the finest players to ever grace the lucrative IPL.

When asked about Ab de Villiers, Gautam Gambhir gave him a scathing review and said he wasn’t among his top ten players. Many were taken aback by Gambhir’s comments regarding one of cricket’s best players across all three forms, especially because the two-time IPL champion bizarrely said that anybody can get runs at the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s home stadium, Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Fans were shocked by Gambhir’s remark and began trolling him online. It was pointed out to Gambhir by several that his personal record in Bengaluru was, to put it mildly, unimpressive. In 11 games at the historic Chinnaswamy Stadium, the former skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made 302 runs at an underwhelming strike rate of 126.36. In Chinnaswamy, though, de Villiers amassed 1960 runs in 61 matches, averaging 43.56 and having a strike rate of 161.18.

De Villiers appeared in 170 games in the IPL, scoring 5162 runs with a 39.71 batting average and a 151.69 strike rate. At an awards event sponsored by a prominent website and the broadcaster of the Indian Premier League, the South African batting legend was crowned the finest batter in the history of the league.

After the 2021 IPL season, de Villiers announced his retirement from professional cricket. After playing 2008–2010 with the Delhi Daredevils, the team whose name has since been changed to the Delhi Capitals, he signed with RCB in 2011 and played out the remainder of his career with the Bengaluru side.
