As they say, cricket, just like life, is a great leveller and Jason Holder came to that realisation in the recently finished T20I series against England. While playing in the 4th game of the series, Holder was smashed for 4 sixes off 4 balls by England’s stand-in captain Moeen Ali, but in the very next game, which also turned out to be the decider of the series, Holder got 4 wickets off 4 balls.
Jason Holder came on to bowl his 3rd over of the game last night in the 5th T20I, with England needing 18 runs to win the match and the series. Chris Jordan was on strike first ball and despite being mainly a bowler, Jordan could hit the ball miles. However, the first shot was mistimed and Jordan was holed out in the deep.
Sam Billings, who was batting at the other end and crossed ends while Jordan’s catch was in the air, had to go for the big shot as well because of the required run rate and Holder very smartly took a little bit of pace off the ball which induced a mistimed shot again and the catch was held in the deep.
Holder was on hattrick at that point of time, but in the context of the game, a dot ball was more important as the equation had come down to 18 off 4 balls for England. Adil Rashid was on strike and trying to clear the midwicket boundary, he was caught by Odean Smith as well. Holder, with Rashid’s wicket, became the first West Indies bowler ever to complete a hattrick in T20I cricket.
The former West Indies captain then cleaned up Saqib Mahmood off the next ball and finished the series off the 4th ball of the over itself.
Jason Holder might fetch a big amount in the upcoming IPL mega auction
It was a sigh of relief for West Indies as only a couple of weeks ago, they had lost an ODI series against an associate nation Ireland and had to cope with a lot of criticism for that.
From Holder’s personal point of view as well, his performance in this series might help him in the upcoming IPL auction, as a lot of teams are going into the mega auction looking for an allrounder and Holder fits the bill in so many ways.
Here is how Twitter reacted earlier today after the fortunes of Jason Holder changed in a space of 24 hours –

West Indian Jason Holder emulates Rashid Khan, Lasith Malinga & Curtis Campher to become the fourth bowler in T20I cricket to claim four wickets in four balls. He did so against England at Bridgetown in the fifth and final match of the series.#WIvENG #ENGvWI

I suppose four wickets in four balls to dismiss the opposition is a decent way to close out the final over, Jason Holder. Enjoyable series, that.
