WWE is set to produce its next Premium Live Event, WWE Bash in Berlin 2024 this weekend. Many predictions have been floated in the conversation. However, popular actor and long-time wrestling fan Freddie Prinze Jr., amidst the discussion, gave his take on who the next John Cena of this generation is.
Who did Freddie Prinze Jr. call John Cena of this generation?
On the latest edition of his podcast, Wrestling with Freddie, the actor was discussing WWE Bash in Berlin predictions. During the conversation, Freddie proclaimed that The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes is positioned as the John Cena of the modern era. He outlined Rhodes’ popularity and picked him as the favourite to walk out of Bash in Berlin as the victor.
“His [Cody Rhodes’] merchandise is top selling, like everything’s good. He’s the John Cena of his generation, who was the [Hulk] Hogan of his generation, you know how the lineage works. He’s the face of the WWE, there’s no reason for him to lose it [WWE Title].”
Cody Rhodes has been on a hot streak ever since he dethroned Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship. He has been groomed to become the next flagship star of the company and has proved his worth as the champion, putting down opponents like Solo Sikoa, Logan Paul and AJ Styles.
The American Nightmare is next scheduled to battle Kevin Owens at the WWE Bash in Berlin. Cody Rhodes himself hand-picked Owens as his opponent, although KO was reluctant at first. As Freddie pointed out, Cody Rhodes is placed at the top of the WWE pedestal, so it can be expected that he will indeed walk out as the winner.
Moreover, with John Cena set to retire at the end of 2025, WWE fans could possibly witness a dream showdown between the global juggernaut’s past and present.
