Four Popular players who have played just one IPL game for Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings led by MS Dhoni is one of the most successful franchises in the history of the IPL. They have reached the playoffs the most number of times. In fact, they have reached the playoffs every single season except the last one in which they finished seventh on the points table. Most of the players who give their name in the IPL Auction want to play for this franchise so that they can share the dressing room with the likes of MS Dhoni, Stephen Fleming, Dwyane Bravo, and Mike Hussey.

All players don’t get an opportunity to be in this franchise but some of them do get a chance. There are a few players who were in the squad for a season or two but got only one game for Chennai Super Kings. So, let’s have a look at four popular players who have played just one IPL game for CSK.

4. John Hastings

John Hasting who is a right-arm fast bowler from Australia was part of the IPL for a brief period. He has played for two IPL teams and one of them is Chennai Super Kings. He was part of the CSK squad in IPL 2014 and then moved to KKR in IPL 2016.

He is one of those players who only played one game for CSK in the whole season. He was picked for the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad and he bowled three overs and gave away 29 runs. But he also picked up the important wicket of David Warner. He has played a couple of games for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2016 and since then hasn’t played in the IPL.

3. Vijay Shankar

Vijay Shankar who was a part of India’s World Cup squad has been a part of three IPL teams. Shankar who is from Tamil Nadu was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad in IPL 2014. He, later on, played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals.

Shankar played just one game for CSK in that season and he was asked to bowl only one over as he gave away 19 runs in his only over in the game against Rajasthan Royals. He didn’t get the opportunity to bat. Shankar is currently a part of the SRH squad and will look to make a comeback in the Indian side.

2. Thisara Perera

Sri Lanka’s all-rounder Thisara Perera has been in and out of the IPL and he has been a part of quite a few teams. Perera was a part of the CSK squad in IPL 2010 and his story is quite similar to Vijay Shankar. The Sri Lankan who bowls good pace played against Mumbai Indians and gave away 19 runs in his one over.

Just like Vijay Shankar, he didn’t get an opportunity to bat and he didn’t play for CSK after that. Perera was also a part of the Rising Pune Supergiant squad in IPL 2016 led by MS Dhoni.

1. Mark Wood

England’s fast bowler Mark Wood was part of the IPL for the first time as Chennai Super Kings bought him in the 2018 IPL Auction. CSK was making a comeback in the IPL after a two-year ban and Wood was a part of that squad. He was picked for the first game against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.

Mark Wood wasn’t at his best as he gave away 49 runs in his four overs without picking up any wickets. He did get a chance to bat but got out pretty early. Wood didn’t get to play any more games in that season and he was released before the next season. Mark Wood will be available in this year’s IPL Auction.
