‘I Don’t See Him Ending Up In The Mix’-Former India Batsman Speaks About Whether Dhawan Is In The Running For The T20 WC 2022

Despite having a successful season in the Indian Premier League 2022, the experienced Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan is having trouble being selected for the Indian national squad. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were two of the senior players that the Indian team decided to give some break for the series against South Africa. This allowed some of the peripheral players to get more playing time, but Dhawan was not selected for the team.

Given this information, it seems that the player’s career in Twenty20 Internationals is almost ended, given that the Twenty20 World Cup 2022 will take place in the following months. According to former batting great Sunil Gavaskar, Dhawan is not expected to be selected for the Indian team that will compete in the World Cup in Australia.

Sunil Gavaskar speaks about Shikhar Dhawan

“No. There is no indication of his name appearing anywhere. If it were going to show up anywhere, it would have done so in this group. There have been a lot of individuals who went to England, and he could have been able to be in this group. I don’t see him ending up in the mix (for the T20 World Cup) if he isn’t in this group,” Sunil Gavaskar said to Star Sports.

Dhawan, who is now 36 years old and plays for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League, amassed 460 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 122.66 during the 2022 tournament. However, he is up against stiff competition for opening positions in white-ball cricket with the Indian team and is not likely to be selected for the India Twenty20 International team. The Twenty20 International match against Sri Lanka in July 2021 was the last time he played for India. He has played in a total of 68 Twenty20 Internationals during his career, scoring 1759 runs at a strike rate of 126.36 and averaging 27.92 runs per game.
