Shivam Dube won the first Man of the Match award by a Chennai Super Kings player in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League last night against his former franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. Dube played the best knock of his IPL career and remained not out on 95 runs in the first innings of the match at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and decided to field first. The Bangalore-based franchise got off to a great start as they picked up the wickets of Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad before the score crossed 40. Then, Shivam Dube came out to the middle and joined forces with opener Robin Uthappa.

The two batters stitched up a match-winning partnership of 165 runs to help the Chennai Super Kings finish with a score of 216/4 in 20 overs. Chasing 217 to win, RCB fell short by 23 runs despite cameos from Glenn Maxwell, Shahbaz Ahmed, Suyash Prabhudessai and Dinesh Karthik.

Talking to the host broadcasters after winning the Player of the Match award, Dube said:

“Yeah, definitely. Happy that contributed to the first win for the team. I think I am more focused this time. Focusing on the basics. Mahi bhai helped me to improve the game. He said I have a good base and should just focus on being still and just let the skill work in the game.”
