1. Winning All Three Major ICC Trophies As Captain

To call Dhoni the greatest ever captain in the history of cricket won’t be an exaggeration. The 39-years old is the only captain to have won all the three ICC tournaments – World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy. MS lead his team to glory in the inaugural edition of the World T20 in 2007 – that too despite the absence of the greats like Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly.

He won the ODI World Cup in 2011 and ended the 28-years long wait of Indian Cricket team, which is also his career’s greatest achievement. At last, he won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 and became the only captain to have all the ICC trophies under his belt. Having all three trophies is a dream for any captain and probably no other leader can replicate this achievement.

2. Most Number of Stumpings Affected in the International Cricket

Dhoni’s brilliance behind the stumps is not hidden from any avid cricket fan. The Ranchi-born is known for his lightning-quick glovework behind the sticks. A batsman on the striker’s end thinks twice before stepping out from crease when Dhoni keeps the wickets.

MS Dhoni has affected the most number of stumpings (195) in international cricket. Among all the active cricketers, Mushfiqur Rahim has the most number of stumpings (90). With this much difference, his record is likely to remain unbroken for a long time.

3. Century While Batting At No. 7 Or Below As A Captain

MS Dhoni, at his peak, is one of the best ODI batsmen ever. The former Indian captain has bailed his team out of the troubled waters umpteenth time in his long career. Dhoni is the only captain to score a century while batting at No. 7 or below in the 50-overs cricket.

While batting first against Pakistan, the Indians were reduced to 29/5 at one stage. MS Dhoni, then, played a blistering knock of 113 runs and helped his team post a fighting score on the board. Although India lost the match, Dhoni was adjudged with Man of the Match award for his wonderful knock.

As said earlier, MS Dhoni is probably the greatest captain ever in the history of cricket. He has captained his team in many multi-nation tournaments and has emerged out as victorious on many occasions. Hence, the longevity of Dhoni is something to admire as well.

While the other captains have failed to lead more than thrice, Dhoni has to lead his team in all the six World Cups so far. He has a decent record in the T20 World Cup, as captain. The right-handed batsman has won 21 and lost 11, with one ending in no result.

5. Most International Matches As a Captain In International Cricket

There have been many captains to lead their teams successfully for a long span of time. The captains like Ricky Ponting and Stephen Fleming have guided their respective teams in more than 300 matches. But, no player has done it more than MS Dhoni in the international circuit.
