5 teams which have lost most matches in IPL by 50+ runs margin

Any loss by a margin of more than 20 runs is a huge loss in IPL and a loss by a margin of more than 50 runs is absolutely massive. But, there are a few teams which have suffered losses by a margin of over 50 runs quite a few times in the IPL.

Here are the teams which have lost most matches by a margin of 50 or more runs in the IPL –

1 Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

RCB has been one of the only three currently active teams in the IPL which has never won an IPL trophy and that’s surprising because they have had the services of some of the greatest T20 players of all time over the years.

RCB has reached the final of the IPL thrice, but the seasons where they have not played well, they have really hit rock bottom and have lost a lot of games by massive margins. The men in red and gold have lost a total of 13 games by a margin of 50+ runs so far.

2 Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)

KXIP is another team whose performance has been really up and down in the IPL over the years and they have reached the IPL final just once in their history. It happened in IPL 2014 where they were beaten in the final by the eventual champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

KXIP has also suffered a number of massive defeats in the past and they are not too far behind RCB when it comes to losing games by margin of 50+ runs. KXIP has lost a total of 12 games by a margin of 50 or more runs.

3 Delhi Capitals (DC)

Delhi Capitals, which used to be Delhi Daredevils in the past, is the third team apart from RCB and KXIP which has never won an IPL.

In the last couple of seasons, DC has started to go up as a team under the leadership of the captain Shreyas Iyer and the head coach Ricky Ponting, but Delhi features third in the list of losing most games by a margin of 50 or more runs as they have done it 8 times.

4 Rajasthan Royals (RR)

It is ironical that Rajasthan Royals had won the first ever season of the IPL, but they have been one of the weakest teams in the tournament for several years after that.

Currently though, the Royals have got the services of some world class cricketers in Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and Steve Smith, but they are still fairly inconsistent as a side.

Rajasthan has also lost a total of 7 games by a margin of 50 or more runs in the IPL which is actually a testimony of the fact they have not really played consistent cricket on a regular basis.

5 Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

KKR has actually been one of the better sides in the history of the IPL. They are only second to CSK and Mumbai Indians in terms of winning the most no. of trophies as they have been the IPL champions twice.

But, in between the seasons where they became the champions, KKR played some really average cricket as well. In the pre and post era of Gautam Gambhir, who was their most successful captain ever, KKR failed to qualify for the playoffs many times including the last season as well where they didn’t qualify despite winning 4 out of their first 5 games.

KKR has lost 6 games by a margin of 50 or more runs which really sounds strange given the fact that they were so dominating in the tournament for a period of 4 to 5 years when they were led by Gambhir.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
