Predicting India’s strongest playing 11 against Bangladesh for the first ODI

After the loss against New Zealand in the ODI series, India’s next assignment will be against Bangladesh. This competition will involve 3 ODIs, with the first game happening on December 4th. Seniors such as Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will return to the line-up for this series. On that note, here, we take a look at India’s strongest playing 11 against Bangladesh.

Openers: Rohit Sharma (C) and Shikhar Dhawan

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan will be the openers in India’s strongest playing 11 against Bangladesh. It has been a while since the famous opening duo has operated together. Hence, it will be interesting to see how they go about it.

Also, the management will analyze if this is the combination that they will use for the 2023 ODI World Cup. The likes of Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are other options in this department.

Middle-Order: Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (WK) and KL Rahul

Virat Kohli will take back his No.3 spot while Shreyas Iyer, who has been in excellent ODI form, will play at No.4. This will be the core of the middle-order.

Rishabh Pant will play at No.5 and this will be an important series for him. Since India will not have Suryakumar Yadav or Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul could have to play the finisher’s role because of his experience.

All-Rounders: Washington Sundar and Axar Patel

Washington Sundar and Axar Patel will be a part of this department in India’s strongest playing 11 against Bangladesh. With Sundar doing well with the bat, he has earned his spot in the Indian ODI XI. It is likely to continue that way.

Axar Patel will be available and India is likely to use the services of the Gujarat all-rounder. The player at No.8 is good batting depth for the team.

Bowlers: Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj

Deepak Chahar is likely to get the nod ahead of Shardul Thakur for this XI. He will look to pick some early wickets so that he can cement his spot in the XI.

Shami and Siraj are likely to complete the pace attack. It may not be a surprise if Kuldeep Sen also gets a go. However, that is unlikely to happen as the likes of Siraj and Deepak need chances to prove themselves.
