England County Championship Game Between Gloucestershire And Durham Stopped For Some Time Due To Emergency Helicopter Landing

The game of cricket has produced quite a few memorable moments in its rich history. Many times, fans have seen some bizarre things in the sport as well. Generally, rain stops play in cricket, but there have been a few occasions in cricket matches in New Zealand, where the matches were interrupted due to sunshine. However, earlier today in a county championship match that was happening in the United Kingdom, fans saw a new thing in the sport.

Gloucestershire and Durham are currently playing a four-day County Championship match in Bristol. The match got underway today. And on Day 1 of the match, a helicopter forced the officials to halt the play.

Great Western Air Ambulance stops the play in Bristol

As mentioned ahead, the Division 2 County Championship match between Gloucestershire and Durham started earlier today in Bristol. Durham won the toss and elected to bat. However, in the opening over of the contest, the umpires had to stop the player because of the emergency landing of the Great Western Air Ambulance. It is a charity organization and they landed on the ground for a critical incident that happened nearby.

According to the reports, the patient was standing outside the stadium. Since the officials allowed the helicopter to land on the ground, they could attend the patient quicker. After 20 minutes, the helicopter departed and once again the match got underway in Bristol. Durham Cricket posted a video of the same to inform their fans about the development.

“A Great Western Air Ambulance has landed on the outfield due to a critical incident nearby. Play will commence as soon as possible,” Durham Cricket’s tweet reads.

Soon after Durham Cricket posted the tweet of the video, the CEO of GWAAC, Anna Perry expressed her gratitude to the County Championship organizers and everyone associated for stopping the play and allowing the helicopter to land.

“Thank you so much to all the players & officials who allowed @GWAAC to land so our crew could reach a nearby patient quickly. Great Western Air Ambulance Charity relies on donations from the public in order to carry out our lifesaving work,” Anna Perry wrote.
