IPL 2020 : Number of Players used by each team

The race for the playoffs us heating up as some of the teams which were at the bottom of the table have started slowly to climb up the ladder. On the other hand, the top teams have lost a few games which makes the competition very interesting. One of the ways to determine a team’s success is to find the number of players they have used in a particular season. If a team uses fewer players it suggests that their current players are doing well and so they don’t see the need to chop and change. So, let’s have a look at the number of players each team has used.

8. Kings XI Punjab – 20

Kings XI Punjab was struggling in the first half of the season and they constantly kept chopping and changing with their XI. They have used 7 out of their 8 overseas players and tried almost all possible options in the middle-order. Even in the spin department, they started with Krishnappa Gowtham then tried Murugan Ashwin, then turned to Harpreet Brar, and now are back with Ashwin. They are finally finding a settled XI which has helped them win four consecutive games.

7. Sunrisers Hyderabad – 20

Sunrisers Hyderabad hasn’t performed well and one of the reasons is the injuries. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mitchell Marsh were ruled out of the tournament. Vijay Shankar missed a few games due to an injury and now Kane Williamson is recovering from a hamstring injury. As a result, they had to try different bowlers, a couple of overseas players, and a few middle-order batsmen which is why they have used 20 players in the IPL.

6. Delhi Capitals – 19

Just like SRH, Delhi Capitals too have been unlucky with players getting injured. R Ashwin got injured in the first game, Ishant Sharma and Amit Mishra were ruled out mid-way through the season and then Rishabh Pant suffered a hamstring injury which led to two changes. They have kept changing their Indian quick as they stared with Mohit Sharma and currently Tushar Deshpande is getting some games. Due to all these reasons, they have used 19 players in this IPL.

5. Chennai Super Kings – 18

Chennai Super Kings is a team which doesn’t like to many changes but this year because of the failure of some big players they were forced to make some changes. Ambati Rayudu and Dwayne Bravo were injured initially and recently Bravo has been ruled out of the tournament. Shane Watson, Kedar Jadhav and Piyush Chawla all three of them have failed to deliver which led to some changing in the XI. MS Dhoni has indicated that there might be some more changes in the XI in the last three games.

4. Kolkata Knight Riders – 18

One more team which has been chopping and changing a lot for various reasons. Most of the Indian pacers in the KKR squad have played at least one game. Kuldeep Yadav has been in and out of the team. Andre Russell has suffered an injury which gave a chance to Lockie Ferguson and Sunil Narine’s absence led to the inclusion of Tom Banton. As a result, KKR has used 18 players in this year’s IPL.

3. Royal Challengers Bangalore – 18

It took 3-4 games for the Royal Challengers Bangalore to get their perfect XI but now it seems as if they have finally found it. They started with Umesh Yadav and Dale Steyn but moved to Mohammad Siraj and Chris Morris. Josh Phillipe who kept wickets in the first couple of games was benched and ABD was ready to keep wickets. They might make one or two changes depending on the ground conditions or opposition but more or less it looks like a settled unit.

2. Rajasthan Royals – 18

Rajasthan Royals missed the services of Jos Buttler for the first game and Ben Stokes for the first 6-7 games. So, they were forced to go with David Miller, Tom Curran, or Andre Tye for a while. They have kept changing their Indian players as Yashasvi Jaiswal was first picked then dropped and then picked again and then finally dropped again. They have played a little bit with their batting order as well. RR needs to get their act right if they want to win their next three games.

1. Mumbai Indians – 13

Mumbai Indians have just made the three changes in the tournament so far. Ishan Kishan replaced Saurabh Tiwary, Nathan Coulter Nile replaced James Pattinson and Tiwary replaced an injured Rohit Sharma. Almost each and every player in that XI has delivered so far and hence they have used only 13 players in this season of the IPL.
