Five Most Expensive buys by RCB in IPL History

The IPL 2021 Auction had seen some of the most expensive buys in IPL history and a lot of teams has spent a lot of money on some new players. Overseas fast bowlers were the winners as they bagged a lot of money in this Auction. Royal Challengers Bangalore who had a purse of 30+ CR has spent more than 10 CR on a couple of players in the auction.

Over the years, RCB is a franchise that loves to spend big money on big-ticket players. Even in the previous auctions, especially the Mini ones RCB has been a team that has been heavily active to spend their money. They have bought some really expensive players, not only in the auction but even in the previous ones. So, let’s have a look at the five most expensive buys by RCB in IPL history.

5. Dinesh Karthik – 10.5 CR

Dinesh Karthik who is in the Kolkata Knight Riders has been to most of the IPL teams throughout his career. In IPL 2014 he was part of the Delhi Capitals for 12.5 CR, and they released him after one year. The next year he was once again in demand as Royal Challengers Bangalore bought him for 10.5 CR.

Karthik is one of those players who has got a lot of money through these auctions. RCB bought him for 10.5 CR, but he had a disastrous IPL as he scored just 141 runs in the whole season. RCB released him after that season, and he went to a new team.

4. Tymal Mills – 12 CR

There will be a few RCB fans who would like to forget this name because Tymal Mills didn’t do anything significant in the IPL. Mills was part of the India-England T20I series just before the 2017 Auction and as a result, there was a lot of buzz about him in the Auction.

The left-arm pacer from England was in high demand as the price kept on increasing. Finally, RCB bought him for 12 CR, but the deal didn’t quite work out. He picked up five wickets in five matches and released after that season. Mills never got an IPL deal after that season.

3. Yuvraj Singh – 14 CR

Yuvraj Singh and Mini Auctions worked out quite well because the Indian all-rounder would always make money in these auctions. In the 2014 IPL Auction, Yuvraj Singh was the star player and most of the teams were looking to get him. Royal Challengers Bangalore broke the bank and bought him for 14 CR.

He had a good season but still, RCB released him so that they could buy him at a cheaper price. But that plan didn’t quite work out as Delhi Capitals bought him for 16 CR in the 2015 IPL Auction.

2. Glenn Maxwell – 14.25 CR

Just like Yuvraj Singh, even Glenn Maxwell and mini auctions have worked out well. Glenn Maxwell was bought for 10.75 CR in the last auction, and he had one of his worst seasons as he failed to hit a six throughout the season. Even after such a poor season, the explosive batsman was in high demand in the auction.

Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore had a bidding war but RCB won it in the end as they got Glenn Maxwell for 14.25 CR. He is one of the most expensive buys in the history of the IPL.

1. Kyle Jamieson – 15 CR

Royal Challengers Bangalore didn’t stop after buying Glenn Maxwell for such a huge price. Kyle Jamieson who has had a dream start to his Test career was in high demand as Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore wasn’t ready to stop the bidding. Finally, Punjab Kings backed out and RCB got Jamieson for a whopping 15 CR.

Jamieson hasn’t played in the IPL, and he doesn’t have much T20 experience. He has a lot of potential and has started well in the longest format but RCB has taken a huge risk by buying a new player for such a huge price. Kyle Jamieson is RCB’s most expensive buy in the history of the IPL.
