In a tournament like IPL, it is important for franchises to create their unique brand. There is a lot of potential to generate revenue even before and after an IPL season. The jersey plays a very important role in this. The colour of the jersey is the main identification of a franchise. If this is unique and stands out, the brand itself can stand out amidst rival brands. For instance, teams such as RCB, CSK and MI have their own colour combinations, which have contributed to the growth of the brand. However, some outfits have not been able to do that. On that note, here, we take a look at two franchises that need to change their jersey colour to create a unique brand.
1) Lucknow Super Giants
If you take a look at Gujarat Titans, they have already become one of the valuable franchises. Yes, winning a trophy has helped but GT’s jersey and the cool colour combination have allowed the fans to lap it up.
That said, that has not happened with LSG. They have had two different jerseys for two seasons and the colours were extremely different. In IPL 2023, the dark blue colour looked boring because most of the other franchises already have this colour. With a marketable player like KL Rahul at the helm, LSG can surely do better.
2) Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings is one of the franchises that need to change their jersey colour to create a unique brand. When the tournament started, everyone was excited about PBKS because of the hue of the jersey and also the owner.
However, they are now one of the least valuable franchises. The selection of the jersey has also not been great. The red colour is already associated with RCB and PBKS have combined red with gold, which RCB already has done before. They can surely do better in this context.
