IPL 2020 is just around the corner as the countdown has begun for the most unique season in the tournament’s history. For the first time since 2009, the entire IPL season will be played outside India as the UAE will host IPL 2020.

Almost all players have zero match practice heading into this season and the role of captains will increase much this year because they will have to motivate their team.

However, captaining a team is not everyone’s cup of tea. Captains like Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni have achieved much success in the IPL, but in this article, we will look at those 4 players, who captained in a team in 25 matches, but have worst captaincy record in tournament history.

#1 Sourav Ganguly – 40.47%

Sourav Ganguly is regarded as one of the all-time best captains in cricket history. However, the Bengal-based player could not succeed much as a skipper in the IPL.

Ganguly captained Kolkata Knight Riders and Pune Warriors in 42 matches, but his team could win only 17 of them.

#2 Ajinkya Rahane – 36%

The vice-captain of the Indian Test team, Ajinkya Rahane captained the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018 and 2019. Under his leadership, RR finished at fourth place in 2018.

However, in the succeeding season, Rahane did not achieve much success as a captain as his overall win-loss record came down to nine wins and 16 losses.

#3 Kumar Sangakkara – 34.04%

Kumar Sangakkara was the man who led Sri Lanka to the final of ICC World Cup 2011. Because of his leadership skills, he got a chance to captain Kings XI Punjab, Deccan Chargers, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL.

However, Sangakkara’s record was not so impressive as his team recorded only 15 wins in 47 matches.

#4 Mahela Jayawardene – 33.33%

Mahela Jayawardene captained three different teams in the IPL. He led Kings XI Punjab in 2010, Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011, and Delhi Daredevils in the closing stage of his career.

Although he is one of the best Sri Lankan captains of all time, Jayawardene could win only 10 of 30 matches as a skipper.
