2 Bowlers Who Dismissed MS Dhoni Most Times In The IPL History

MS Dhoni is one of the best cricketers to have been part of IPL. In 211 games, he scored 4669 runs at an average of 40.25 and a strike rate of 136.64. This is despite him batting mostly in the middle-order. On top of this, MSD’s captaincy skills have been brilliant, and there is no competition for him behind the stumps. For the bowlers, MSD is always a difficult wicket to take. In this article, we take a look at two bowlers who dismissed MS Dhoni most times in IPL history so far.

1) Zaheer Khan – 7 Dismissals (6 Caught + 1 Caught Behind)

Zaheer Khan is one of the bowlers who dismissed MS Dhoni most times in IPL history so far. The left-arm pacer took a total of 102 wickets in his 100-game IPL career. Out of this, seven of the scalps have MS Dhoni’s name on them.

It is obvious that in the T20 format, the most common mode of dismissal is by catching. Especially in Dhoni’s case, considering he is mostly in the mood to go big, he often falls victim when he can’t clear the boundary. This is where Zaheer has found success against the CSK captain. In his career, Zaheer played 13 games against CSK, and he managed to take Dhoni’s wicket in seven of them.

2) Pragyan Ojha – 6 Dismissals (1 Bowled + 4 Caught + 1 Stumping)

Pragyan Ojha was a dangerous bowler in the initial seasons. In fact, for Deccan Chargers to lift the trophy in 2009, Ojha had to play an important part. Dhoni has struggled against Ojha, losing his wicket on six occasions to the left-arm spinner.

Ojha collected 89 wickets in his IPL career, and he overcame MSD on a few occasions. While Dhoni was caught off Ojha’s bowling four times, he was bowled and stumped once. It was in 2010 that Ojha broke through Dhoni’s defence, and a year later, he stumped the legend using Kumar Sangakkara’s help when he was playing for the Deccan Chargers.

Apart from these two cricketers, Dhoni has been out three times by Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard and Shane Watson. Both Bumrah and Pollard will have a chance to improve on their record in IPL 2021.
