“If I get to my triple hundred…”, Virender Sehwag reveals special chat with Sachin Tendulkar in his remarkable knock against Sri Lanka

Virender Sehwag has been one of the most imperious batters of recent times and the kind of carnage that he has stitched over the years makes him a fan’s favourite every time he held up the blade. From taking Brett Lee out on what was the first ball of a Test match for a maximum to dancing down the pitch with the hope of bringing his century with an over-boundary, Virender Sehwag was directly synonymous with entertainment.

In the long list of records that the opener stitched during his heydays, one of them was being the first Indian cricketer to get a triple-century in Test cricket and was also the only player in Indian colours to have bagged two triple-hundreds in the longest format of the game. Sehwag is also a member of the elite club of triple centurions in Test cricket that has only four members adorning it. He could very well have been the only cricketer to smash three triple centuries if he was not stopped in his tracks against Sri Lanka for 293.

Here is what Virender Sehwag had to say about his secret chat with Sachin Tendulkar

In the podcast called the Ranveer Show, he opened up about an unheard tale with Sachin Tendulkar on the day when he smashed his first triple century and this would leave the fans teeming with memories from the past. Sehwag said, “I never played for records. I never looked to achieve anything. But the one thing I did aim for, I failed – the third triple century. I was dismissed for 293.”

He further added, “I have never spoken of this before. And probably I feel I would never say this to anyone. There was a moment where I told Sachin, ‘If I get a third triple century, you will get a work done for me.’ He asked me, ‘what work?’ I said: ‘If I say this now, what purpose will it serve.’ Eventually he agreed. But it never happened and hence I never told him about that work. It remains unfulfilled and hence revealing it now serves no good.”
