Chennai Super Kings had their worst IPL season of all time in 2022. For the first time in the tournament’s history, CSK lost 10 IPL matches in the same season. They narrowly avoided a last-place finish because of a better net run rate than Mumbai Indians.
It was quite an ordinary season for the Super Kings as none of their batters managed to score 400 runs in the tournament. Last year, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis were the top two run-scorers of the entire tournament, but this year’s CSK was a little different. Even the bowling department lacked firepower, while some all-rounders failed to play to their full potential.
But Chennai Super Kings have always backed their players, and they might retain the following five players despite their disappointing show in IPL 2022.
1. CSK are likely to retain Ravindra Jadeja for IPL 2023
Chennai Super Kings will likely retain Ravindra Jadeja for the next season. He is a world-class all-rounder, but in IPL 2022, he let the fans down with his performance in all three departments.
2. CSK are likely to retain Moeen Ali for IPL 2023
Barring the last match of the season, Moeen Ali could not make much of an impact this year. However, like Jadeja, he should be backed by the franchise for the next season.
3. CSK are likely to retain Narayan Jagadeesan for IPL 2023
Narayan Jagadeesan has been with CSK for quite some time, but he has not replicated his domestic brilliance. Since he is one of the top wicket-keeper batters in domestic cricket, he is likely to be retained.
4. Dwaine Pretorius
Dwaine Pretorius was impressive in his debut season, but his economy rate was 10 runs per over. CSK fans will hope for a better show from him if he is retained.
5. Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthappa started the season well but lost form as the tournament progressed. Since he has enormous experience under his belt, Uthappa is likely to be retained by CSK.
