Team India has had batting issues in recent months. Especially after the drop in form of the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan, India has been struggling across formats. Nevertheless, there have been a few positives, too. A few Indian men’s batters have managed to get more than 1000 runs in 2022. It is a positive sign going ahead for the men in blue. On that note, here, we take a look at four Indians who have scored more than 1000 International runs in 2022.
1) Shreyas Iyer – 1609 runs
422 runs in 5 Tests || 724 runs in 17 ODIS || 463 runs in 17 T20Is
Shreyas Iyer has been India’s best batter in 2022. Despite him not playing in all the T20Is, the Mumbai batter has managed to maintain consistency and his form. Especially when you consider his act of pulling India out of the hole many times, his contributions have been brilliant.
While he managed a total of 14 fifties, Iyer also hit an unbeaten century in 2022. In both Tests and ODIs, Shreyas has cemented his spot in the XI. Hence, the management will hope that he continues his form, especially with the 2023 ODI World Cup set to happen.
2) Suryakumar Yadav – 1424 runs
260 runs in 13 ODIs || 1164 runs in 31 T20Is
Suryakumar Yadav is one of the Indians who have scored more than 1000 International runs in 2022. This year, SKY hit the peak of batting form in T20Is. He can be easily considered India’s best T20 batter this year.
SKY is the only cricketer who hit more than 1000 runs this year in T20Is. It is a stunning record and he will look to add to it in the coming months. SKY hit a total of 10 fifties and 2 centuries this year. Interestingly, even by including ODIs, his average strike rate is 157, which is a brilliant number. The player will want to make his debut in Tests and also start doing well here, as well.
3) Rishabh Pant – 1380 runs
680 runs in 7 Tests || 336 runs in 12 ODIs || 364 runs in 25 T20Is
Rishabh Pant is also one of the Indians who have scored more than 1000 International runs in 2022. The Indian wicket-keeper scored 2 centuries in Tests and also got one in ODIs, especially when the series was on the line. His strike rate is 90 in Tests this year and it’s not a surprise that it is one of the best among the high run-scoring batters.
In T20Is, though, Pant struggled this year. The southpaw had to be dropped for a few games, too. Even after the T20 WC, Pant has struggled to find his feet in this format. Considering India needs him to be in top form in 2023, the management will hope that he starts doing well in the white-ball formats at the earliest.
4) Virat Kohli – 1348 runs
265 runs in 6 Tests || 302 runs in 11 ODIs || 781 runs in 20 T20Is
It was actually an interesting year in the career of Virat Kohli. While he failed to do well in Tests and ODIs, in T20Is, Virat was India’s best batter after SKY this year.
While he finally broke the century drought, Virat also hit another hundred this year. He helped India in the 2022 T20 World Cup, which was actually preceded by a fine outing at the Asia Cup. It needs to be seen how he would do in 2023.
