3 Times Roman Reigns headlined WWE Fastlane

Roman Reigns will defend his Universal Championship at Fastlane this Sunday at the WWE Thunderdome. Daniel Bryan will challenge Roman Reigns in the match. Bryan has never been the Universal Champion before. However, he can become the champ on the Road to WrestleMania 37. If that happens, Bryan could the main event the Show of Shows this year.

Roman Reigns has an excellent record at WWE Fastlane. He has never lost at this event. In fact, WWE has built the event around his big moment thrice. In 2017, Roman ended Braun Strowman’s streak at this show. Apart from that, he has headlined WWE Fastlane on the following three instances.

3. Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan, Fastlane 2015

Interestingly, Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan match headlined Fastlane in the year 2015. It was the first-ever edition of this pay-per-view event. WWE was keen to push Roman to the moon. However, the fans wanted Daniel Bryan to main event WrestleMania. Reigns had won the Royal Rumble match.

Still, WWE gave the fans a match between Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan so that they were satisfied even their hero got a chance to contend for the title match opportunity. Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan had an excellent match, where the former prevailed. Eventually, The Big Dog went on to fight Brock Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania 31. Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract during that match and ended the night with the WWE Championship in his hands. Many consider it as The Heist of the Century.

2. Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose, WWE Fastlane 2016

The 2016 Royal Rumble match was a bit different. Roman Reigns had to defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against 29 other men in the Royal Rumble. Triple H made his shocking return at the #30 position and won the title. To determine Triple H’s WrestleMania 32 opponent, WWE booked a triple threat match at Fastlane. It featured two former Shield members Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose as well as The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar.

The fans expected a brilliant match between the three and that was exactly what they got. Brock Lesnar was taken down by the teamwork of Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose. In the closing moments of the bout, Reigns hit his brother Ambrose with a spear to seal his spot in the main event of WrestleMania 32. Brock Lesnar and Dean fought each other in a No Holds Barred Match, where Brock emerged victoriously. Roman finally had his WrestleMania moment in 2016, where he beat Triple H for the title.

1. The Shield vs. Bobby Lashley, Baron Corbin, and Drew McIntyre, Fastlane 2019

Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose were once again a part of the WWE Fastlane main event during the 2019 edition of the show. It was the final WWE pay-per-view appearance for Ambrose. He teamed up with his Shield brothers Roman and Seth Rollins to take on the trio of Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, and Bobby Lashley. Since it was the last PPV match of the Shield, Roman, Ambrose, and Rollins emerged victorious against the heel trio. The two Shield triple powerbombs were the highlight of this match.

It was quite emotional for all three Superstars. They knew they would never perform the Shield special moves at a PPV again because Ambrose was leaving. Ambrose has joined AEW, where he wrestles under the name of Jon Moxley. Meanwhile, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins achieved much success at the subsequent WrestleMania. The Big Dog defeated Drew McIntyre in a singles bout, whereas Seth beat Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.
