3 players who might not make it to the Indian squad for Asia Cup 2022

Asia Cup 2022 will start on 27th August. India’s first game will be against Pakistan on 28th August. Considering the T20 World Cup is scheduled later this year, the squad for the Asia Cup might give a few hints about India’s plans. Some of the seniors will be coming back and hence, a few players will have to sit out. On that note, we take a look at three players who might not make it to the Indian squad for Asia Cup 2022.

1) Shreyas Iyer

Although he is being backed well, Iyer is not finding form in the T20I format. He last scored a T20I fifty in February. His last six innings have included three single-digit scores and five of the knocks came at a strike rate less than 120.

With players like Deepak Hooda and Sanju Samson pushing hard, Iyer might struggle for a place. Moreover, with the likes of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul set to return, the chances further look bleak for the Mumbai cricketer.

2) Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan is one of the players who might not make it to the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2022. In the last three games that he has played, Avesh has conceded more than 40 runs in his spell. He has also looked off-color and is not picking wickets regularly.

While form is one reason, there is firm competition, as well. Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel are certainties along with Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. If India is taking an extra pacer, it could be someone like Deepak Chahar. Therefore, Avesh might not get a spot in the team.

3) Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi has actually done well in the opportunities that he has got. Be it against England or West Indies recently, the youngster has maintained a good economy while also collecting wickets parallelly. However, luck may not be in his favor for the Asia Cup.

Yuzvendra Chahal will surely be the lead spinner for the country. R Ashwin has recently returned to the T20I setup and has looked sharp. With his left-arm wrist spin, Kuldeep Yadav offers more variety and is also more experienced. These reasons could make Bishnoi struggle to find a spot in the Asia Cup squad.
