WTC Final 2023 will take place in June later this year, where last edition’s runners-up India will square off against Pat Cummins‘ team Australia at The Oval. It will be a one-off match just like 2021 WTC Final, where New Zealand defeated India to become the inaugural winners of the ICC World Test Championship.
India has not picked a single player born outside India in their playing XI over the last many years, but New Zealand picked multiple players born outside New Zealand two years ago in the ICC World Test Championship Final.
Similarly, even the Australian cricket team might play with three players born outside Australia in the 2023 ICC World Test Championship Final against the Indian cricket team at The Oval. Here’s a list of those three names:
1. Pakistan-born Usman Khawaja might play in the WTC Final 2023
Pakistan-born cricketer Usman Khawaja plays international cricket for the Australian cricket team. Over the last two years, he has emerged as one of the top performers in the international arena. He has played several great knocks for the Australian cricket team, including a phenomenal century against India in the recently-concluded Ahmedabad Test match.
Khawaja is likely to open the innings for India in the 2023 World Test Championship Final. It will be interesting to see if he can play another big knock against the Indian cricket team.
2. South Africa-born Marnus Labuschagne might play in WTC Final 2023
Another player born outside Australia who may play against India in the 2023 ICC World Test Championship Final is South Africa’s Marnus Labuschagne. He is the world number one Test batter right now and will hold the key to Australia’s success in the upcoming match.
3. Matt Renshaw
England-born Matt Renshaw was a part of the Australian squad that recently toured India for the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. It will be exciting to see if he gets a chance to play in the big game later this year.
