3 Indians who have a confirmed spot for 2022 T20 WC but are struggling in IPL 2022

Team India will be under pressure to do well in the 2022 T20 World Cup. It has been a while since India won an ICC event. In the previous edition of the T20 World Cup, India got knocked out on the group stage itself. There is new management at the helm and hence, the expectation is that India should do better. However, a few members who are confirmed for a spot in the squad for the event are currently struggling in IPL 2022. These players must return back to form for India to have a good chance later this year. In this article, we take a look at three Indians who have a confirmed spot for the 2022 T20 WC but are struggling in IPL 2022.

Note: The statistics are as of May 7th, 2022.

1) Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians)

Matches: 10 || Runs: 198 || Average: 19.8 || Strike Rate: 128.57

The captain of the Indian Team, Rohit Sharma is not doing well in IPL 2022. That said, he is looking in great touch and it is just that he is not able to stitch long knocks.

Nevertheless, if Rohit chooses to become a powerplay hitter for Team India, it may not be a bad idea. Both KL Rahul and Virat Kohli can anchor the innings and hence, Rohit’s talent can be best used in giving solid starts to the team.

2) Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Matches: 11 || Runs: 216 || Average: 21.6 || Strike Rate: 111.92

Virat Kohli is one of the Indians who have a confirmed spot for the 2022 T20 WC but are struggling in IPL 2022. Although he has not done well recently, in Australia, Virat will have the best conditions to perform well. He is good against pace and moreover, he has the experience of doing well in Australia.

Right now, Virat is finding it hard to make runs in IPL 2022. Even when he is making them, they are coming at a very low strike rate. Virat has the necessity of setting a lot of things right before returning to his peak form.

3) Ravindra Jadeja (Chennai Super Kings)

Matches: 10 || Runs: 116 || Average: 19.3 || Wickets: 5

Jadeja happens to be one of the most improved Indian batters in recent years. In the T20 XI, at No.7, Jaddu adds terrific balance to the XI. However, in IPL 2022, he has been in poor form.

Captaincy could have been an issue but yet, but due to his experience, Jaddu is expected to do well. Both with the bat and the ball, the CSK all-rounder has not made a contribution so far. This is a concern for Team India as the squad relies on him heavily as the all-rounder.
