Batting first, India was in trouble at 27-2. Both Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid were back in the hut and India needed a partnership. With Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir constructed a good partnership before he dominated the game later with VVS Laxman.

It was a fine knock by Gambhir against a bowling unit that comprised the likes of Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson and Stuart Clarke. Gambhir took 380 deliveries to make this knock and India declared the innings at 613/7.

2) VVS Laxman – 200*

Fours: 21 || Sixes: 0 || Year: 2008

VVS Laxman is one of the Indian players who have scored a Test double-century against Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Amongst the Indian cricketers in the previous generation, VVS Laxman is one player who always reserved his best for Australia. He single-handedly helped India against the Aussies in a lot of matches and this encounter was another example.

Laxman had a fine partnership with Gambhir and later added a few runs with the lower order to take India to a big total. India waited for Laxman to get to his double century before the declaration. Later, Australia also replied with a score of 577 and with this, it was inevitable that the game was heading towards a draw. Laxman also batted in the second innings and he made 59 runs, which was also the highest score for Team India.
