2 benched Australian players who might get a chance in the upcoming IPL games

Amongst the foreign nations, Australia gets the highest representation in the IPL. This is mainly due to the performance of a few Aussies in the earlier seasons. Hence, when it comes to picking backups in overseas departments, teams usually prefer to take a name from the BBL. Therefore, these players could also end up without getting a lot of games. Here, we take a look at two benched Australian players who might get a chance in the upcoming IPL games.

1) Daniel Sams – Lucknow Super Giants

Daniel Sams had a poor start to IPL 2022 but later made up by helping Mumbai Indians win a game. Nevertheless, he was released after the season and LSG picked him up.

Sams is a quality cricketer but at LSG, the likes of Mark Wood are the first-choice overseas pacers. Marcus Stoinis, of course, will take up the spot of the overseas all-rounder. Hence, Sams is yet to get his chance in the XI. That said, he might still get an opportunity if LSG feels that they need a left-arm pace option. Since Jaydev Unadkat is not in great form, Sams would be an ideal fit.

2) Matthew Wade – Gujarat Titans

Matthew Wade is one of the benched Australian players who might get a chance in the upcoming IPL games. The veteran played a few games for GT last season but is yet to get a go this time around.

As a finisher, GT already has the likes of Rahul Tewatia and David Miller. There are the likes of Gill and Saha in the top order who are doing well. Therefore, Wade is yet to get a chance. But, maybe, if GT qualifies early for the playoffs, they could opt to rest Miller and give the likes of Wade or Shanaka a chance in the playing XI.
