Royal Challengers Bangalore has been home to several top cricketers. Some of these players have also become Head Coaches and even done well in various other fields. SA20 2024 is an important event for South Africa. If the league finds success, it will establish itself as the second-most popular league after the IPL. Interestingly, some of the ex-RCB cricketers have found an opportunity in the SA20 as a coach. Here, we take a look at the list of four former RCB players who are coaches in SA20 2024.
1) Sridharan Sriram – Batting Coach of Durban Super Giants
Sridharan Sriram not only served as the bowling coach of RCB but he also played for the franchise in the past. For the last few years, the former India cricketer was at RCB as a spin-bowling coach. However, after the management changed, Sriram made the move to Lucknow Super Giants. It was a given considering his relationship with Justin Langer, who was appointed as the Head Coach there.
Now, Sriram has joined LSG’s sister franchise DSG as a coach. He is an intelligent coach and has done well in the past. Hence, his presence will be useful for the side.
2) Jacques Kallis – Assistant Coach of Pretoria Capitals
Jacques Kallis is also one of the former RCB players who are coaches in SA20 2024. One of the best all-rounders that the game has seen is Jacques Kallis. He played for RCB in the first three years of the IPL. It was a good stint for him. Later, he joined KKR and even was their Head Coach for a while.
Hence, it is interesting that he is an assistant coach in the SA20. Ideally, he had all the ingredients to be a Head Coach. Nevertheless, this is a stint that could help him land some top jobs in the future.
3) Albie Morkel – Assistant Coach of Joburg Super Kings
Albie Morkel first played for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He had a successful stint, doing well for the franchise both with the bat and the ball. Later, the South African cricketer represented teams such as the RPS and RCB.
At RCB, though, Albie did not have a long outing. He was not able to replicate the success that he had attained at CSK. Later, he retired from the game and has taken to coaching recently. It would not be a surprise if he also get a chance in the IPL in the future.
4) Dale Steyn – Bowling Coach of Sunrisers Eastern Cape
Dale Steyn is one of the former RCB players who are coaches in SA20 2024. Steyn had two good stints at RCB. While the first one was brilliant, the second one was a short one but was memorable for the franchise, the players and the fans.
However, when it comes to coaching, Steyn has been with Sunrisers Hyderabad. He is also the bowling coach of the owner’s franchise in the SA20. Last year, the team had a good performance and won the trophy. Steyn will be expected to repeat the magic in the second edition, as well.
