“Management or selectors need to get him on the right track,” Gautam Gambhir feels India needs to give this player a couple of opportunities and get him in the mix

India will play more than 35 ODIs in 2023.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has named a player whom he thinks management or selectors need to get him in the right track. He feels Prithvi Shaw should be given a couple of chances to improve his mistakes and the team should get him in the mix.

Prithvi Shaw failing to make the cut in the Indian side despite performing well in the domestic circuit

Prithvi Shaw rose to the ranks after he led India U19 to the World Cup win in 2018. Not only he impressed many with his captaincy skills but he also led from the front and score truckloads of runs. Later that year, he went on to make his Test debut and scored a century in his maiden innings for India.

However, after his eye-catching performance on debut, he missed out on some matches due to an injury he suffered in Australia on the 2018-19 tour and then suffered a ban from the BCCI for failing a drug test.

After that Shaw’s fortunes took a tumble as he failed drastically in IPL 2020 in UAE and then his problems got compounded by his failures with the moving ball in Australia.

Amidst his failure, Shaw was dropped from the side after the first Test of the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar trophy and was replaced by Shubman Gill, who impressed everyone with his elegant stroke play and kept his spot ahead of Shaw for the England home Test matches.

He got a chance in the white-ball team in July 2021, when he was part of a second-string squad that toured Sri Lanka for three ODIs and as many T20Is. But after that, he hasn’t been part of India’s squad.

Since then he has been on the sidelines despite performing well and giving his IPL and domestic sides a rollicking start batting at the top of the order. In the IPL 2022, he was at his aggressive best as he scored 283 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 152.97. He had a terrific Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he scored 332 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 181.42.

Despite being a consistent performer in the domestic circuit and IPL, Shaw is continuously failing to make cut into the Indian side. It was expected that he would make it into at least one of the squads for the Sri Lanka series. But it wasn’t the case as he yet again didn’t feature in the team.

Gautam Gambhir feels management needs to get Prithvi Shaw in the team

Gambhir feels that management needs to get Shaw on the right track and give him a chance to improve himself and get him in the mix. Speaking on Star Sports, he said:

With India set to play many games this year, it remains to be seen if Prithvi Shaw will be given a chance or not.
