Fans of Suresh Raina trend “Chinnathala” on twitter after CSK doesn’t buy him in IPL mega auction

Suresh Raina played 12 seasons for CSK and won 4 IPL and 2 Champions League titles

After Chennai Super Kings (CSK) decided not to bid for Suresh Raina in the IPL mega auction yesterday, a section of CSK fans was very, very unhappy and the fans decided to trend “Chinnathala” on Twitter today.

Chinna Thala was the nickname of Suresh Raina given fondly by the fans as he was the vice-captain of the team for a long period of time and Chinna Thala is a Tamil word that actually means second to the leader.

Raina’s fans are angry at the moment because they wanted the franchise to bid for the left-hander out of respect for what he has done for the team over the years as he has been their most successful batsman ever.

CSK had a purse of 2.95 crore INR left at the end of the auction and Raina’s base price was 2 crore INR. So, it was possible for them to pick Raina at his base price rather than any youngster if they wanted to do it out of respect, but it just seemed as if they didn’t want to pick Raina at all.

The franchises were given a chance to submit 5-7 names in the last round of the accelerated auction, but CSK didn’t submit the name of Raina. They rather submitted the name of 3 youngsters and bought all 3 of them, but Raina’s name didn’t come up.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
