Faf du Plessis reportedly back in the Super Kings set up, might captain Joburg Super Kings in CSA T20 league

Faf du Plessis was the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the previous season of IPL

The former CSK player Faf du Plessis, who represented the Super Kings franchise in the IPL for more than a decade, is now expected to lead the Super Kings franchise in the new CSA T20 league. The Super Kings are based in Johannesburg in the CSA league and are all set to be called Joburg Super Kings.

While the unveiling of the name of the franchise hasn’t taken place yet and the franchise hasn’t even named their marquee signings either, it has been reported by Cricbuzz that Faf du Plessis has been signed by Joburg Super Kings as one of their marquee players.

According to the rules laid out by CSA, the franchises are allowed to directly sign 3 overseas players, one South African capped player, and one South African uncapped player before the auction, and two of the players that the Super Kings have reportedly signed before the auction so far are Faf and the England off-spinner Moeen Ali.

The reports also suggest that the Super Kings are in discussions with another CSK player Maheesh Theekshana to sign him as another overseas player before going into the auction. While Faf du Plessis is not a part of the Super King’s original IPL franchise CSK anymore, both Moeen and Theekshana are a part of the CSK setup.

Faf du Plessis will be Super Kings’ one capped SA international signing pre-auction

Other than Moeen and Theekshana, Joburg Super Kings are expected to sign another overseas player pre-auction and also a local uncapped South African player, apart from Faf who will fall in the category of capped South African internationals.

Because of the captaincy experience that Faf du Plessis has, not just in international cricket, but in various leagues as well, he is the frontrunner to take over the captaincy of Joburg Super Kings, as CSK’s captain MS Dhoni won’t be playing in the CSA league. Dhoni, however, might be in a vital decision-making role for the Super Kings, if BCCI allows him to be a part of the CSA league.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
