Two-time defending champions of the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians are having a tough time in the competition this year. The Mumbai-based franchise is currently in the seventh position, having won only four out of their ten matches. It is quite surprising to see MI perform like this because they have star players like Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah and Rahul Chahar in the squad.
It is a worrying sign for the Indian cricket team fans as well because six members of the Mumbai Indians team have made it to the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 squad. The trio of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya has not been fired yet in IPL 2021 UAE leg so far. Meanwhile, Rahul Chahar has not been so successful as Phase 1 of the season. So, now the biggest question in the minds of MI fans is can their team qualify for the playoffs? The answer to that question is luckily yes.
Mumbai Indians need to win all of their remaining matches
For Playoffs, Equation is Simple

As pointed out by a Twitter user, the equation for the Mumbai Indians is simple right now. Generally, 16 points are enough for a team to book its place in the Playoffs of an IPL season. The Mumbai Indians are currently seventh, but the main thing is there are three more teams – Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders – who have eight points to their name.
If the Mumbai Indians win their next four matches which are against the Punjab Kings, the Delhi Capitals, the Rajasthan Royals and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, they will make it to the Top 4.
What if MI fail to win their remaining 4 matches?
It’s not all over for MI if they fail to win their remaining 4 matches. But they need to win at least three, and that too by a decent margin, to ensure they have a good net run rate.
In the past, IPL teams have qualified for the playoffs with 14 points also. The only thing MI needs to take care of is that they do not lose in a match by a big margin.
