Asia Cup 2022 started on 27th August. The tournament will involve six teams for the biggest crown in Asia. Asia Cup follows an interesting format that gives all the teams involved a fair chance to win the trophy. The format has been designed such that even the fans are engaged well. Super Four is a subset of the Asia Cup format. Here, we take a look at how the Super Four format works in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022.

The six teams of Asia Cup 2022 are divided into two groups- Group A and Group B. All three squads in each group play against each other to populate a points table. The top two members of each Group qualify for the Super Four stage.
In the Super Four, all four teams battle it out against each other once. Hence, each team will get to play three matches. At the end of this stage, the top two teams will see each other in the summit clash. Compared to the format in the T20 World Cup, this format offers a better deal for the teams. At times, even though they have quality, a few squads might have a bad day and could end up getting eliminated. Instead, giving each team a fair chance to show their skills would be a better idea. The Super Four in Asia Cup offers that.

Even for the fans, the Asia Cup format will be extremely interesting. For instance, Asia Cup 2022 has the possibility of having three India vs Pakistan matches. This is equivalent to a short T20I tournament. This is hardly achievable anywhere else.
For teams such as Afghanistan, playing against quality opposition like India and Pakistan all within a span of a few days will help their learning curve. Therefore, this format is very sustainable for all stakeholders.
