The ongoing cycle of the World Test Championship has resulted in a rollercoaster ride for the England Test Team. WTC 2021-23 started with Joe Root and Chris Silverwood at the helm. It will be finished by Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum as the captain and the coach, respectively. The team is doing well at the moment. Therefore, it will be an exciting challenge for them from the next cycle.

The real test for England and Brendon McCullum

After the series of losses, England is now looking good under the new management. Under Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes, the team has adopted an aggressive brand of cricket. This has helped them to defeat the defending World Test Championship winners New Zealand and then India in the one-off match.

England has succeeded in pulling off chases which they were not able to do a few months ago. However, the real test awaits them in the next cycle. So far, they have played their games at home in England. Pitches were in tune with their strategy. In the next WTC cycle, they will travel to India, Pakistan, and New Zealand, all three of which would be challenging assignments.

More importantly, opposition teams have now understood the approach of the England Test Team. Hence, there is likely to be the development of suitable strategies to counter them. Therefore, it will an interesting phase for the fans of the game from next year.
