“He Will Blow Away My Record”- Alastair Cook Reveals The One Condition When Joe Root Can’t Break His Record

ENG vs NZ Live Update: Alastair Cook, a former captain of England and the player who has scored the most runs for England in the history of test cricket, believes that the only thing that might prevent current batter Joe Root from breaking his record is if he had an injury. Root scored his 10,000th run in test matches on June 5 (a Sunday), becoming the joint-youngest batter in history to do so with Alastair Cook. This occurred when he was batting 115 not out and won the match against New Zealand at Lord’s while chasing 277.

Cook first competed for England in a Test match in 2006 and finished his career with 161 total appearances for the national team. He concluded his time playing Test cricket with a total of 12,472 runs, including 33 hundreds. This places him seventh on the list of players with the most runs scored in the format. Other than the number of runs he has scored, Root is just eight hundreds short of passing Cook’s record of 33 hundreds achieved in tests. Cook, who was Root’s captain when he played, said that the latter might go “miles” beyond his record.

ENG vs NZ Live Update: Incredible reliability can be seen in Joe Root- Alastair Cook

Root made his debut in a Test match in 2012. Until 2018, he was a colleague of Cook’s in the England camp dressing room. Both individuals attained the milestone of 10,000 test runs simultaneously at the age of 31 years and 157 days. This is only a coincidence. As of right now, Joe Root is ranked fourth in the ICC Test Men’s Batting Rankings. He has scored 10,015 runs in Tests at an average of 49.57. He is lower than Steve Smith in second place and Kane Williamson in third place in the ratings, although he is just 49 rating points behind Marnus Labuschagne, who is in the first place. The 31-year-old was praised by Cook not just for his consistency but also for his ability to bat in different situations.

“Kevin Pietersen was the one who could play the most amazing innings, but Joe Root is the most complete batter in all three forms of the game. His consistency is astounding. He was a really brilliant player of spin, as good as anybody. He was prepared to compete at an international level in cricket. You had no doubt that he could be up to the challenge. If no injury happens to him, he’ll blow away my record.

I would have never predicted that I would retire at the age of 33. But it just seemed like the perfect moment for me. The mental anguish I went through to score runs cost me a lot of energy, Cook said to BBC Sport. Regarding Root’s capacity to deal with high levels of pressure, Cook said, “I’m not saying it’s easy for him, but he doesn’t appear to have that difficulty.”
