Earthquake takes place during U19 World Cup in West Indies, players continue with the game

The magnitude of earthquake was measured 5.2 on Richter scale

Hardly ever would you have heard about an earthquake taking place right in the middle of a World Cup game, but it happened yesterday when Zimbabwe and Ireland were playing in the U19 World Cup at Queens Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago. And the tremors that were felt, albeit only for a few seconds, were quite strong. However, none of the players, in the heat of the action, felt it at the time on the ground.

The commentators, however, felt the tremors and even talked about it, but there were no interruptions in the game and it kept going. It was only at the end of the game that the players got to know an earthquake took place while the game was underway. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured 5.2 on the Richter scale.

Generally, when a massive earthquake takes place, there might be a danger of aftershocks as well, after the earthquake and if that was the case in Trinidad and Tobago where the epicenter of the earthquake was, it was very likely that the game between Ireland and Zimbabwe was going to be interrupted, but nothing of the sort happened and the game went on.

The U19 World Cup of 2022 is being organised in West Indies

The U19 World Cup of 2022 is currently being played in West Indies and the games are taking place with free entry for the fans despite the fact that a third wave of COVID has hit most parts of the world. Some of the teams in the U19 World Cup have had COVID outbreaks within the group with a number of players testing positive at the same time, but the organisers haven’t banned the entry of the fans.

India has also been one of the teams who have struggled with COVID cases with captain Yash Dhull and some other players having to miss a few games because of positive COVID test. The skipper is, however, back now and so are the others. India are in the Super League knockouts and they are playing their games in Antigua, while the earthquake took place in Trinidad, where the plate league games are being held.

The men in blue have already made it to the semi-final of the Super League round of the U19 World Cup by beating Bangladesh in the quarter final and they will now be facing Australia in the semis. India had lost against Bangladesh in the final of the last U19 World Cup, which was organised in South Africa.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
