England has named their 14-member squad for the three-match ODI series against South Africa, which will be played from 27th January to 1st February. The Three Lions have named ace pacer Jofra Archer in the side as well.
Archer flared up his elbow injury during England’s tour to India in 2022. He underwent surgery in March that year followed by a few weeks of recovery and made his return in the County Championship game, where he yet again struggled to bowl.
Archer then was ruled out of action for the rest of the year because of the recurrence of a stress fracture on his right elbow, which included IPL 2021, followed by the T20 World Cup 2021 and the Ashes 2021-22. He was then expected to return to cricket in 2022 but another injury saw him missing cricket for the second consecutive year.
Apart from Archer, Reece Topley has also returned to the squad, which will be led by Jos Buttler. Ben Duckett also has found himself in the squad for the first time since 2016. Whereas other names in the squad are quite familiar.
The notable miss from the squad are Liam Livingstone and Jonny Bairstow, who are nursing injuries whereas Joe Root has been rested.
