IPL 2022 started yesterday evening in Mumbai with a battle between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings. KKR defeated CSK and avenged the loss of the 2021 IPL Final. In the second match, the Mumbai Indians battled Delhi Capitals, where DC avenged the defeat of IPL 2020 Final. Even RCB lost their first game in IPL 2022.
Now, in the third match, the Royal Challengers Bangalore took on the Punjab Kings. The Kings prevailed over the Bangalore-based franchise in a high-scoring encounter. Faf du Plessis scored a half-century on his IPL captaincy debut and inspired the Royal Challengers to a 205-run total.
Wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik and former RCB captain Virat Kohli played brilliant cameos as RCB posted 205 runs on the board. Punjab Kings won the match in the 19th over courtesy of some excellent performances from Odean Smith, Shahrukh Khan, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Shikhar Dhawan.
“The batting was really good from Punjab. Probably the catches towards the end (cost us). We probably dropped him (Odean Smith) on when he was 10 or something. He is a powerful hitter. If we had held on to the chances. Though it’s a cliche, catches win matches. There was some dew out there,” RCB captain Faf du Plessis said after the match.

Looking at the way, RCB batted in their first innings of the IPL 2022 season, many fans felt that they would walk away with a win from the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. However, the Punjab Kings batters pulled off an incredible run-chase to deny the Royal Challengers Bangalore a win.
Odean Smith smashed some brilliant shots off Mohammed Siraj’s bowling, while wicket-keeper Bhanuka Rajapaksa smacked really impressive shots as well.
