“David Warner will be Australia’s wicketkeeper if something happens to Matthew Wade,” Aaron Finch says he is prepared to take the risk of going into T20 World Cup without a reserve wicketkeeper

Australia had a reserve wicketkeeper in the squad in the form of Josh Inglis, but he got injured on the golf course

The Australian captain Aaron Finch has clarified that if Matthew Wade has to sit out for some reason in the middle of a T20 World Cup game, David Warner will keep wickets for Australia because Australia doesn’t have a reserve wicketkeeper in the squad.

When Australia had originally picked their 15-member T20 World Cup squad, they had picked Josh Inglis as the reserve wicketkeeper, but Inglis injured himself on the golf course a couple of days ago, and rather than going for another wicketkeeper as a like-for-like replacement, the Australian selectors picked Cameron Green.

Talking about Green’s selection ahead of Australia’s first World Cup game against New Zealand, Aaron Finch said that the team management and the selectors, both are aware of the fact that it’s risky because there is only one wicketkeeper in the squad in the form of Matthew Wade, but the quality that Green brings to the table, it was hard not to pick him once a spot opened up.

David Warner is also likely to be the opening partner of Aaron Finch

Finch talked about his own batting position as well, which has been changing in recent times, and made it clear that he would bat at his usual position at the top of the order the recent experimentation of him batting at no. 4 was done only to give other players some opportunities.

David Warner will most likely be the other opener with Finch and if Cameron Green plays at all, he will be batting in the middle order. Finch played down the question on the playing XI for tomorrow’s game and said he has not decided about it yet, but it would be surprising if Green gets a nod ahead of Australia’s first-choice allrounder Marcus Stoinis. It, however, must be kept in mind that in the lead-up to the World Cup, Green did play some whirlwind knocks in T20Is, particularly against India.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
