David Warner Breaks Virat Kohli’s World Record In 1st T20I Against Sri Lanka

The T20I series between the Australian cricket team and the Sri Lankan cricket team got underway on Tuesday evening in Colombo. The Aussies dominated the islanders in the match, with David Warner scoring a half-century.

Talking about the match first, Australian cricket team captain Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to bowl first. He picked only one specialist spinner in the playing XI even though the match was happening in subcontinental conditions. He trusted Glenn Maxwell after his fantastic performance for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.

“We will bowl first, looks like a very good wicket and we back ourselves to chase any score down. Maxwell has shown both for Australia and in the IPL that he can bowl at any time and at any stage of the game, so we are happy to go with just one specialist spinner,” said Finch.

The Sri Lankan cricket team got off to a magnificent start as they were 100/1 at one stage. However, the duo of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood wrecked the batting lineup as the Aussies bowled their rivals out for just 128 runs. Sri Lanka lost their last nine wickets for 28 runs in Colombo.

David Warner scored a fifty to give Australia the upper hand in the match

Chasing a modest target of 129 runs, Australia got off to a great start as well with opening batters Aaron Finch and David Warner adding 101 runs for the first wicket before a rain delay. Warner completed his fifth consecutive half-century against the Sri Lankan cricket team in T20Is.

Warner became the first batter in T20 international cricket history to score five back-to-back fifties against the same opponent in the shortest format of the game. Virat Kohli and Paul Stirling previously held this record with four fifties each.
