Former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Daniel Vettori recently predicted the four franchises that should make it to the playoffs of the 2022 IPL season. He gave his predictions after the match between the Mumbai Indians and the Lucknow Super Giants which happened on Sunday evening. Interestingly, he left out Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are currently on a five-match winning streak in IPL 2022.
According to Vettori, the Rajasthan Royals and the Gujarat Titans will be two of the four teams to qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs. The next two teams that Vettori picked during an interaction with ESPNCricinfo were Lucknow Super Giants and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Speaking of the current positions of the four teams picked by Daniel Vettori, it seems likely that Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals will make it to the next round. However, it is tough to predict which two out of the three franchises, namely Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad will qualify.
Even Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders have a chance of qualifying, while Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have a small chance as well.
Daniel Vettori wants Rohit Sharma to bat lower down the order for Mumbai Indians
The former New Zealand spinner further opined that the Mumbai Indians must think of changing their batting order after eight back-to-back losses in IPL 2022. As per Vettori, Rohit Sharma could move from the opening spot to the number three or four position.
“Potentially, we’ve seen in the past some down at three or four and it may just free him up, [going] away from a role he’s so used to. I think with Rohit Sharma, he opens for India, he’s captain of India, it’s hard to put yourself down the order in these situations,” said Vettori.
It will be interesting to see if Rohit Sharma follows the suggestion given by Vettori.
