Alex Hales has opted out of IPL 2022 citing bio-bubble fatigue. The Englishman was obtained at his base price by Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022. The franchise has now replaced Alex Hales with Australian skipper Aaron Finch. In this article, we take a look at how Twitter reacted as Aaron Finch joins the ninth IPL franchise.
Aaron Finch joins the ninth IPL franchise.
So far, Aaron Finch has played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Pune Warriors, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Gujarat Lions. Hence, KKR will be his ninth IPL team. This is a record of sorts because no other cricketer has achieved the feat.
Aaron Finch is not in great form right now. Yet, KKR picked up, although there were better options in the market. For Finch, despite his exploits at the international level, he has not come good in IPL so far. Considering his declining form, Finch would want to do well in IPL so that he remains in good space before the T20 World Cup that will be held later this year. Finch last played in IPL for RCB in 2020.
With Alex Hales not in the squad, KKR might open with Ajinkya Rahane. Aaron Finch is a player who falls in a similar bracket and hence, the management could go for an Indian option. They can then play Sam Billings as the wicket-keeper.
Twitter reacts to Finch’s unique record
Meanwhile, Twitter was brim with reactions after IPL made the announcement of Finch joining KKR. While a few reacted to KKR’s pick, most of the reactions were centred around Finch’s record of playing for nine teams. Chennai Super Kings is the only franchise (barring the newly arrived teams) that is yet to be host to Finch. Hence, a few even predicted that Finch will join CSK next year. Here are some more reactions in that regard:
