3 Australian part-time spinners who might have to bowl in the absence of Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell will miss at least one game in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He had an injury after he fell from his golf cart. Maxi was the team’s second spinner and he was doing a good job. With him absent, Australia must find some fresh overs of spin so that the variety remains intact in the bowling attack. On that note, here, we take a look at three Australian part-time bowlers who might have to bowl spin in the absence of Glenn Maxwell.

1) Marnus Labuschagne

Marnus Labuschagne is one player whom Australia might have to depend on for a few overs of spin. He is a leg-spinner and quite frequently bowls in the domestic circuit.

In fact, he is also called often to bowl for Australia in Tests. Marnus has not been in exceptional form with the bat in the tournament. This might be his chance to contribute further for the benefit of the squad.

While he is a dependable spinner, the management will vary about Travis’ recent recovery from a hand fracture. He has started his World Cup on a good note and the coaches might not want to tinker too much with it.

3) Steve Smith

It would be a risk if Australia expects Steve Smith to roll his arm over. However, it should not be a surprise if that happens considering the demands of the squad.
