India and Sri Lanka are involved in the 2nd T20I at Pune. Sri Lanka made a good score of 206 in the first innings. India lost a few wickets early. However, Axar Patel, along with Suryakumar Yadav, did well to help India get close to the target. Axar Patel does well against Sri Lanka
At 34-4 and then at 57-5, chasing 207, India was in serious trouble. Especially with Shivam Mavi batting at No.8, one more wicket and India would have been staring at a massive loss to Sri Lanka. This would have been an embarrassing moment for India. However, Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav did not let that happen.
Including six sixes and two boundaries, Axar completed his fifty in just 20 balls. Dasun Shanaka had a similar performance in the first innings and it was Axar’s turn to respond. Against Wanindu Hasaranga, in an over, there were 26 runs scored and Axar hit three continues sixes against the leggie. This over turned the game interesting. This knock will bring a lot of confidence to Axar. Even the management can now have him at No.7 without any concerns.
Twitter reacts to the knock by the all-rounder
In Ravindra Jadeja‘s absence, Axar Patel has been a perfect backup for him in the shorter formats. In fact, at the moment, it won’t be a surprise if the management starts to prefer Axar ahead of Jaddu in the playing XI in T20Is.
