Two opening combinations that MI may try in 2023

As the IPL knocks around the corner, the speculations have already started blowing through the roofs and expect them to be nothing less than absolute crackers. The first game of the season will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans where MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya will be leading their respective lines. Another giant of the game, MI will be taking the yard on Sunday.

Mumbai Indians finished in the rock bottom with 4 wins from their 14 games that saw them bagging a net run rate of -.0.50 and after a dampened start that saw them lose 9 matches on the trot, they could eventually snuff out the losing rut and register their first win. With Rohit Sharma struggling to get runs, things got really difficult for the five-time champions. Here are two opening pairs that Mumbai Indians may try for IPL 2023.

#1 Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan

Albeit the duo is still to strike gold in the international colours, yet both fits the bill perfectly for a couple of hard-hitters out of which both have the mileage to go those long yards if opportunities arrive. Rohit Sharma struggled earlier with the bat but of late, he is back to runs and will be a crucial pick for the upcoming edition, particularly at the top of the order. Ishan Kishan is being deemed as the next big thing in Indian cricket after that double century in the ODI against Bangladesh. He has the flair to strike the cherry around by a fair mile too and can get those runs come in a hurry.

#2 Tim David and Rohit Sharma

Tim David wasn’t a bang on success for the Mumbai Indians throughout the tournament but in the final match of the series, he did the talking with the bat and the way he hammered around the bowlers, it was a treat for the eyes. He has the hard-hitting ability and can be an absolute banger if he gets his eyes in. Particularly if you allow him to bat in the powerplay, he will bring about a revolution. Rohit Sharma is a fine striker of the cherry and when the shorter format of the game comes knocking on the door, there are fewer hitters than the Hitman in recent times.
