Twitter slams Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane as he says he is not concerned about his form

Ajinkya Rahane has gone past the score of 50 only three times in last 27 test innings

Twitter users are not happy with today’s statement of India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane who has said that the lack of big knocks isn’t really bothering him as his only aim is to contribute to the team and the team doesn’t always need a big hundred. Even a 50 or a 60 run knock at some stage can prove to be a key contributor for the team.

There is nothing wrong in what Rahane said, but what irked most of the Indian fans on Twitter is the fact that Ajinkya Rahane is not actually scoring a lot of 50s or 60s for India either.

In the last 27 test match innings that Rahane has played, he has gone past the score of 50 only on three occasions and although one of them was a famous match-winning hundred at MCG last year, his consistency has still not been anywhere near good enough in test cricket for a while now.

Ajinkya Rahane is now averaging less than 40 in test match cricket

Rahane’s average in test match cricket was over 50 at one stage, but it has now come down to less than 40 and he has become the only specialist Indian batsman ever who is averaging less than 40 after playing 75 or more test matches.

For Rahane to say he is not bothered about his form as he always thinks about the team, it didn’t sit well with the Indian fans as they are of the opinion that a player can’t benefit the team in any possible way if he is not scoring runs consistently for the team.

Rahane will have a big responsibility on his shoulders in the first test match against New Zealand as India won’t have the services of two of their main batsmen, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both of whom are rested. If Rahane doesn’t find his form soon, the demands to drop him from India’s test team will only intensify as the rested players return.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
