Being held in Dubai, the sale of the two new franchises has been the happening event in the world of cricket since this morning. The suspense has finally been cleared. The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, also known as the RPSG Group, has become the highest bidder at the sale for the two new IPL teams. Rising Pune Supergiants, the former IPL Team, was owned by the same company. After the conclusion of IPL 2021, one of the most keenly awaited events was the sale of the two new IPL franchises. Both the new teams would join the competition from the upcoming season in IPL 2022. After a long day, as per reports, the highest bidder is the RPSG Group. The bid was worth INR 7090 crores for the franchise based out of Lucknow.

The same owners had previously been part of the IPL. Rising Pune Supergiants had reached the finals in IPL 2017. Headed by Sanjiv Goenka, the same group will return to IPL, albeit from a different city. RPS had some popular players like MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane and Steve Smith.

The Adani Group and the Glazers bow out of the competition

Throughout the day, it was the Adani Group and the Glazers who were reported to be the frontrunners for the new teams. However, late in the day, the tables have turned. RPSG and CVC Capital have acquired the new teams. CVC Capital will own the Ahmebadad franchise. As RPSG returns to IPL, Twitter welcomed back the owners of the franchise that had managed to accumulate a decent follower base in just two seasons.
