Twitter reacts as David Warner gets back to his best with a thumping half century in 2021 T20 World Cup

There were massive question marks on David Warner's form ahead of the game against Sri Lanka

David Warner was back to his old self in last night’s game of the T20 World Cup against Sri Lanka as he put on an absolute exhibition of boundary hitting in the second innings to see off a fairly decent sized chase for Australia without breaking a sweat.

David Warner has come for a bit of criticism of late for his string of low scores, first in the IPL and then in international cricket, and it was reportedly said if the veteran left-hander had another low score against Sri Lanka, the Australian team management might be tilted towards playing Josh Inglis in the next game.

But, Warner thankfully found his touch against Sri Lanka, and he seemed to be middling the ball from the word go straight away. Sri Lanka, as expected, used the mystery spinner Theekshana against him and Warner just didn’t let him settle at all.

Starting with a switch hit over short third man, Warner then hit quite a few boundaries in front of square on both sides and although he didn’t hit a six during his knock of 65 off 42, it was a masterclass at piercing the gaps.

David Warner had denied he was out of form ahead of the game against Sri Lanka

David Warner, ahead of this game against Sri Lanka, had insisted that his form isn’t as poor as people are making it sound and all he needs is some time in the middle, and he did go out there and walked the talk.

Warner’s relationship with his IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad soured earlier this year and that clearly seemed to affect his form and temperament, as he was visibly a little disgruntled at being treated the way he was.

But, with the next mega IPL auction coming up and with the T20 World Cup trophy on the line with Australia as well, it was very important for Warner to find his form as soon as possible.

A lot of Australia and Sunrisers Hyderabad fans on Twitter rejoiced the fact that Warner was back to his old touch. Here are some of the tweets on Warner’s knock –

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
