Former five-time Indian Premier League champions Mumbai Indians will be the favorites to win IPL 2022 because the matches will happen in Maharashtra. They will have the home advantage, and interestingly, even their away match against the Chennai Super Kings is scheduled to happen at the Wankhede Stadium which has been MI’s den for years.
The Mumbai Indians will open their campaign with a match against the Delhi Capitals. In case you didn’t know, MI are in Group A of IPL 2022 along with the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Delhi Capitals, the Rajasthan Royals and the Lucknow Super Giants.
However, MI will play against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings twice because they have the same position in the opposite groups. MI are number one seeded team of Group A, whereas CSK are the top-seeded franchise of Group B.
MI and CSK will meet twice during the season, but the BCCI has decided against keeping the match on weekends. Generally, MI vs. CSK battles are during the weekends or the tournament opener because they attract a lot of viewership.

Chennai Super Kings will play their home match against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on May 12 from 7:30 PM IST onwards. Again, it is a Thursday evening clash between the two most successful franchises of IPL.
Why is CSK playing home match of IPL 2022 at Wankhede Stadium?
BCCI has allotted all the league games of IPL 2022 to only four venues. Three of them, namely Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium are in Mumbai, whereas Pune’s MCA Stadium is the fourth venue.
The reason why these venues are chosen is they are in close proximity and air travel can be avoided for COVID-19 safety. Hence, CSK will play some of their home games at Wankhede Stadium.
