Suryakumar Yadav reveals why Ishan Kishan batted at 3 against PBKS

Mumbai Indians took the whole cricketing fraternity with a surprise after sending Ishan Kishan ahead of Suryakumar Yadav at the batting crease. This move happened the previous night while playing against the Punjab Kings, which was also their 5th game.

After Quinton de Kock got out early to Deepak Hooda, the batsman that came out to bat at No 3 was Ishan Kishan. Suryakumar Yadav has been blazing all guns at this position for the Mumbai Indians franchise for the last few years. Yet, the side decided to flip the order. However, their move didn’t emerge out as rewarding since Kishan couldn’t get going.

The left-handed batsman just managed to get six runs off 17 deliveries at a significantly below-par strike rate. After the match, questions were asked towards the franchise for their all of the sudden move.

Why did Mumbai Indians send Ishan Kishan at number 3?

During the post-match press conference, Suryakumar Yadav went on to reveal the reason for the same. He reverted back to the question asked by Sportskeeda and said:

“Ishan’s promotion was completely management’s call and we decided collectively that if a left-hander gets out then a left-hander walks in. He and I have been playing a similar role in the past few years. So, I was completely okay with it. We both decided we’ll do the same way what everyone decides, and we were clear in our plans very much.”

The Mumbai side hasn’t showcased their real skills from the batting department as the franchise finds difficulty playing on the slow turfs.

They could manage to win 2 out of 5 games that were played at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, which usually refers to the slower side. They would be hoping to grab the momentum and climb up the points table ladder as they would be traveling to Delhi for further fixtures.
