Steve Smith surprised by tiff over his county stint ahead of Ashes 2023

Steve Smith was absolutely a giant the last time Australia toured England

Ashes 2023: We have all seen that players from all over the world, particularly Test cricketers have arrived in England in order to play county cricket as a measure to hone their Test playing skills. With the Test format playing welcome to players from all across the globe, particularly renowned names, it makes this a lucrative opportunity for any cricketer to walk into such lively conditions. One of the latest names to have been included in the list is none other than Steven Smith, the man who will be first playing against India in WTC final at the Oval and then the Ashes that will follow suit.

It has been a predominant story for the Aussie batters to have warmed up for the Ashes in English conditions but a few fans who have been donning the Australian cap believes that the availability of Steve Smith under English conditions would just help the English players crack the code of the gargantuan Aussie batter.

Plying his trade for the Sussex cricket club, Steve Smith had a few words to say when he was asked whether the reaction is justified and the former Aussie skipper said, “A little bit. I’ve played a lot of cricket in England, it’s not like it’s foreign territory for me.”

Steven Smith was also unbeatable in the last Ashes tour, scoring 774 runs in 2019 to ensure that Australia retained the urn after winning two games in the series. They could have even won the series by making it a three-win affair had it not been for the herculean knock of Ben Stokes and most importantly a gifted opportunity that saw a run out being missed.

Talking about Stuart Broad and his stint during the pandemic restrictions, Smith said, “We were all there and playing so it was a little bit odd, you know? He’s a nice guy and loves throwing out some good banter, so it’s all part of it.”
