Steve Smith ready to make himself unavailable for the T20 World Cup in order to be fit for The Ashes

Cricket is currently riding at its peak. All the fans are ready on their feet to witness each of the formats. The level of energy remains the same whether it’s a Test format or a T20 game. However, with this, the responsibility on players has increased. They have to keep themselves fit for all the forms.

The same scenario has happened at present. The 2 of the most important tournaments for Australian cricket are lined up for later this year. The first one being the ICC T20 World Cup and the other one being the Ashes. The Australian star Steve Smith has found himself in trouble. He decided to make his mind ready to select only one out of the two events.

The Aussie Batsman recently got injured in his elbow. This elbow injury has been the main concern for him. This was the main reason why he even opted out of the squad for the West Indies series.

The Cricketer is slowly getting his shape back but is hoping to keep himself fit for the Ashes. He told cricket.com.au that “I’d love to be part of the T20 World Cup, for sure. But from my point of view, Test cricket, that’s my main goal – to be right for the Ashes and try to emulate what I’ve done in the last few Ashes series I’ve been involved in.”

The Ashes 2021 will begin on December 8, a few days after T20 World Cup

The T20 World Cup is all set to Kickstart from October 17 in UAE. The event will last till November 14, which will mark the final of the tournament. Whereas on the other hand, Ashes will begin from December 8 in Brisbane.

Following the short gap of time between the two events, Smith considers Ashes above the World Cup. It would be exciting to see how Australia performs under Smith’s absence in the 20-over World Cup.
